
At the beginning of last week I was planning on writing about how all the supplements and whole foods in the world can’t give you all-day energy if you’re not getting a good night's sleep. Like sleep is the holy grail to it all, and then I was going to drop some sleep hacks for you to nail it. But I’m glad I didn’t cuz I woulda been wrong (kind of). And I don’t like being wrong.
You see I cherish my sleep. A full night of uninterrupted sleep is one of my favorite things. 9 glorious hours is my sweet spot. I can conquer the world with 9 hours...uninterrupted. Less than that, I get a little grumpy.
But this time of year is baby season on the farm, and my kid earned a spot at Archery Nationals in UT which his dad is his coach for. So he took all the kids to UT. Which means I got stuck at home checking for lambs and calves every 3 hours, round-the-clock, by myself, for 6 days. Some of those nights and days were restless with baby deliveries.
No full nights of sleep.
No naps.
Just broken, restless sleep and a lot of responsibility.

I was fully expecting to feel like a zombie.
But Instead what I found is…..
I had energy. Real energy.
Not the jittery, wired kind.
Not the “crash by 2pm” kind.
Not the “crash by 2pm” kind.
I mean steady, get-things-DONE energy.
I learned that...

I got so much sh*t done. The animals kept me very busy but I still got my house cleaner than it’s been in years, laundry is FINISHED (even put away), no dirty dishes anywhere, even dusted and scrubbed floors, got a few projects off my to-do list. Now some of you might be thinking, “but Jackie, I can just get energy from coffee.”
But can you, and at what cost?
I used to drink coffee too. I thought the coffee zoomies were the best discovery ever. Problem was, it made me jittery and once the zoomies wore off, I was left being extra tired. I also realized it was frying my adrenals and stressing my body hard. The tradeoff wasn’t worth it to me. I have since switched to a clean de-caff coffee and I feel much better for it.
Simple swaps make a huge difference.
